User-Defined Recodes

This is about the only feature that we have seen in other products/services, and truthfully we think it is so basic that it should not need to be mentioned. But since the others make an effort to mention that they can do this (and to be brutally honest, some of our competitors can't even do a recode), we decided that we had better mention it also.

To put it simply, there are two purposes for recodes. One occurs when you want to "collapse" the values that the Census Bureau has recorded. For example, if you want to create 5 race categories by collapsing the various races that are recorded, you can recode them.

The second purpose is when you have a continuous variable (such as an expense or an income) and you want to use it as a dimension. You can recode it so that, e.g. 1-100 is one category, 101-500 is another, etc.
