Who we are ...

...at Innovative Computing

Who are these Innovative Computing guys anyway?

Whenever you see "we", "us", "our", etc. on our website, know that it is the "Corporate" we, etc., and not the "Plural" we, etc.  Which is an extended way of saying that this is a one person corporation.  Unfortunately there is no singular corporate word for us to refer to ourselves.

My name is John Grumbine, and believe it or not, I am uniquely qualified to do this work.  But this is the internet, and if you are sensible, you won't believe me simply because I say so.  Here are a few things you can check out to see if I'm for real:

  1. www.archive.org keeps old copies of websites.  They have copies of the home pages of www.SliceAndDiceData.com going back to 2001 (we're not a fly-by-night) ... I know, the early versions were pretty lousy ... OK, I wasn't a web designer then (and I'm still not).
  2. Look at this newspaper article from 1998.  It describes a little about an older version of the software that I created (and was the predecessor of what I use today), and how revolutionary it was to a major corporation (80,000,000 customers).  This was before I started working with census data.
  3. Look at this newspaper article from 2001.  It describes some of the work that I did on census data, showing that I've been analyzing census data at least since 2001.
  4. Check us out with the Better Business Bureau, www.bbb.org.  No news is good news, and they have no record of us, in part, because there has never been a complaint against us.
  5. As far as the "unique" part, google "custom census tabulations".  Today (8-17-09) www.SliceAndDiceData.com ranks at number 14, and is preceded by US and Canadian government sites (most of them refer to tabulations, but don't do them).  To my knowledge, Innovative Computing (www.SliceAndDiceData.com) is the only non-government source of custom census tabulations.
  6. Read our no-nonsense money back guarantee.
  7. Try our (almost) free trial offer.
  8. If the above items aren't enough to satisfy someone, it's time to throw the ball into their court.  If this isn't enough, what would satisfy them?

What's with the Bible link on the first page?

It's much more important for people to learn what is in the Bible than for them to buy tabulations from me.  I believe that the Bible is the Word of God, and what He has to say far outweighs anything I have to say.  If you don't believe that the Bible is the Word of God, that's a choice that God gives you, and I'm not going to try to take that choice away from you.  But I'll let you know that there are many questions that I couldn't resolve if I reject the Bible as the Word of God.  FWIW, I have degrees in Physics & Entomology, I'm a former Biology teacher, and I'm usually a pretty good problem solver.

What can't be resolved without Divine influence?

Here's a little of what I can't resolve if the Bible did not come from God:  In Exodus 15:26 God tells the Israelites that if they do what He tells them to do, they won't get sick like the Egyptians do (they had just left Egypt).  Then scattered through the 1st 5 books of the Bible, He gives them the Law - and it turns out that much of the Law is actually a health code.  But without a modern understanding of microbiology, infectious diseases, quarantine, and chemistry, it seems like just a bunch of religious rules.  (e.g. wash with hyssop after touching a dead body in Numbers chp. 19 - it turns out that hyssop contains the same germ-killing ingredient as Listerine).  In Deuteronomy 23:12-13 they were told to separate human waste from the living space.  The procedure that is given is considered to be the most sanitary method possible without modern sewage treatment facilities.  Again, this would have seemed like nonsense to people who knew nothing about germs, and yet, populations have been severely decimated throughout history by failing to obey this rule.  There's a lot more to the "health code" in the law, and it's fascinating stuff.

A modern miracle, predicted millenia ago

But lets move on to one other thing.  In many places in the Old Testament the Jews were told that they would be cast out of their land, then returned.  (For example, Isaiah 11:11 tells us this would happen not once, but twice. The first time they were returned by the Medo-Persian king Cyrus, hundreds of years before Christ was born. But let's get to the second event.) In 70 AD the Romans drove the Jews out of Israel.  For nearly 2000 years they maintained their culture and their language.  In 1948 they became a nation again.  There are two major miracles here, which were predicted in the Bible.  The first is that the Jews maintained their culture with no homeland.  No other society has been able to do that - all other conquered and displaced nations were absorbed into the surrounding cultures.  The second miracle is that they were given their land back and made a nation again - just as the Bible predicted.

Anyway, I've studied the Bible from cover to cover, several times through, and there's far more than what I've mentioned here.  I don't see how it can be anything other than the Word of God.

What does this have to do with custom tabulations?

Nothing, really.  Have you seen the movie "Facing the Giants"?  Or "Flywheel"?  It's kind of like that.
